Osteoarthritis (OA) and rheumatoid arthritis (RA) affect a large proportion of the population. Low level laser therapy (LLLT) was introduced as an alternative noninvasive treatment for RA and OA about 10 years ago.

According to the methods recommended by the Cochrane Collaboration, Thirteen trials were included,

174 patients(Control Group)-----Method: placebo laser,

68 patients (LLLT Group)-----Method: received active laser on one hand and placebo on the opposite hand.

Trails time: Treatment duration ranged from 4 to 10 weeks. Follow up was reported by only 2 trials up to 3 months.

In patients with RA (Rheumatoid Arthritis), relative to a separate control group, LLLT reduced pain by 70% relative to placebo and reduced morning stiffness by 27.5 min (95% CI -52.0 to -2.9), and increased tip to palm flexibility by 1.3 cm (95% CI -1.7 to -0.8).

How to operate the HLKGO-T05 instrument?

1.Preparation before treatment: Use warm water to clean skin first then dry the area. avoid dark hairs, moles, or birth marks.

2.Turning on: Turn on the laser by pressing the power key for 2 seconds until the screen displays.

3.Setting treatment time: pressing "Time" button, Control time length.

4.Setting  treatment power:  pressing the "Power" button, there are four intensities to choose

5.Starting treatment: Again short press the "ON/OFF" to start treatment, you will see the laser probes begin emitting light. Put the device on the area to be treated.

6.Turning off: Press the On/Off button for 2 seconds until the indicator light turns off and there is no screen display.7.Charging:  The Laser appliance comes with a rechargeable lithium battery inside. The device will emit a beeping sound when low on power, please plug the unit in to recharge. It takes 8-10 hours to fully recharge.

Contraindications

Contraindication according to The North American Association for Laser Therapy are:  

Eyes: Do not aim laser beams into the eyes and everyone present should wear appropriate safety spectacles.

Cancer: Do not treat over the site of any known primary carcinoma or secondary metastasis unless the patient is undergoing chemotherapy when LLLT can be used to reduce side effects such as mucositis. LLLT however can be considered in terminally- ill cancer patients for palliative relief.

Pregnancy: Do not treat directly over the developing fetus.

Epileptics: Be aware that low frequency pulsed visible light (<30Hz) might trigger a seizure in photosensitive, epileptic patients. The adverse effects of LLLT have been reported to be no different from those reported by patients exposed to placebo devices in trials.
